Why use dots under Instagram images?

Why do people put those dots under Instagram images?

Why do people put those dots under Instagram images?

This was actually a question in our office last week. Well, the first question was from someone asking how to do it (more on that shortly) and then someone else asking “why do people put those dots under Instagram images anyways?” and it seemed appropriate to explain the reasoning and then the how to.

Firstly, many profiles choose 3 or sometimes 5 dots (full stops), one on each line, to push the hashtags they then place underneath the text spread and into the “read more” location. Essentially hiding the hashtags from general view.

Secondly, you can do it two ways:
1. (on iPhone) select “123” then a full stop and the return button that appears bottom right. Repeat as many times as you feel necessary. (you could replace dots with emoji)

  1. Create your generic hashtags list including the dots in the notepad on your phone and copy/paste in after the text.

Bonus Tip:

Now you have figured out about keeping stuff on the notepad, start building a suite of hashtag lists for specific uses. Don’t forget that you can post a maximum of 30 hashtags for any Instagram posts so if you have some in the post text make sure you don’t go over the limit or no text will appear. That’s what the number in brackets means next to the titles below.
